First pages in College history were written in the 1990s. The Ukrainian British College was founded in 1996 as a centre for teaching English for adults and children and improving methodological skills of the region’s ELT community. Our first teachers were members of the Local Consultancy Group of the British Council Centre in Kharkiv, (www.britishcouncil.org/ukraine), leading lecturers of V. N. Karazin National University of Kharkiv, H. S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University and best teachers of some Kharkiv secondary schools.
Since the early days, the College has cooperated with Hilderstone College, the Kent School of English and the University of Kent, UK.Our teachers and students have attended language and methodology courses there, while about 20 students have received bachelor's or master's degrees at the University of Kent.
The College pays much attention to disseminating best practices in teaching English, working together with Oxford University Press and Macmillan publishers.. Seminars and workshops have enjoyed great popularity with teachers and academics in the region.
Within the framework of Kharkiv – Cincinnati, OH, sister city project we have had a very close relationship with one of the best schools in the US, Nativity School. Our students and teachers have repeatedly visited Cincinnati and entertained their American friends here.
The Ukrainian British College is a certified Cambridge English Language Assessment Exam Preparation Centre (http://www.cambridgeenglish.org).
